Get Serious About StagingPosted by Ansley Atlanta 03/20/2020
Does the hot spring market have you thinking about selling your home? Well, it’s time to get serious – serious about the burgundy accent wall you painted in 2002 and your beloved collection of tea pots you proudly display in the kitchen! Most buyers need a neutral canvas to work with, and if there’s too much of you and your life on display, they won’t be able to see themselves living in your home and will likely just move on to the next listing.
Staging your home doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Often a fresh coat of neutral paint and a good de-clutter will do the trick. However, if you walk through your home and see your unique design perspective and style in every room, start subtracting down to the point where your home could belong to anyone. Don’t go so far that the home is lacking personality; just cut back on the really personal and potentially distracting items.
Also, don’t forget about “staging” the exterior of your home. Do a drive-by, and ask yourself if you’d want to go inside? Is the lawn manicured and well-kept? Is the front door clean and inviting? Is the mailbox standing upright? Homeowners tend to focus only on the interior spaces when preparing to sell; but it’s important to remember a home’s curb appeal is what creates that critical first impression with prospective buyers – especially now that the majority of first “showings” take place online.
