Complete These Two Projects to Help Buyers Fall in Love with Your HomePosted by Ansley Atlanta 01/08/2019
Getting your home ready for the spring market frenzy doesn’t have to be difficult – you just need to start thinking like a buyer. Take an objective look around your home from a buyer’s perspective. What would stop you from viewing your home or making an offer? What do you need to do to put your home’s best face forward?
First, take a look at your home’s curb appeal. Since you see your home every day, you’ve probably become immune to its flaws. Don’t worry, this is a fairly common affliction – we all look past the deferred maintenance and worn out haze that hangs over our homes.
Considering that most, if not all, first showings take place online, sprucing up your home’s exterior is money and time well spent.
- Start by adding or replacing mulch to give flower beds and walkways a fresh, finished look.
- Next, invest in a good pair of pruning shears – cut back overgrown trees, shrubs and plants.
- With all that completed, now it’s time for some good clean fun. You’ll be surprised how much grime and gunk come off your driveway, sidewalks and front porch with a good pressure washing.
- Lastly, spend some time at your front door. This is the first close-up view of your home most buyers have, especially when their Realtor® is fumbling to get the lock box open. A fresh coat of paint on the front door and trim, along with a few nice potted plants go along way in creating an inviting first impression.
Now that your home looks good on the outside, it’s time to tackle the hidden areas inside your home that seem to always get overlooked on the honey-do list – the basement, attic and garage.
Often overlooked, these storage meccas can become a catch-all for clutter, dirt and debris. Get down and dirty in these hot spots and organize them from top to bottom. Install shelving, pegboards for tools, and hanging brackets for bicycles and other large sporting equipment. Your goal is to pitch the junk, sell what you no longer need, and categorize the rest.
