Neighborhood Spotlight: Collier HillsPosted by Ansley Atlanta 03/31/2019
Located at the crossroads of Buckhead and Midtown, Collier Hills is one of the most popular and historically significant neighborhoods in Atlanta.
The area’s origins can be traced back to where two major Creek Indian trails intersect at Peachtree Road and Palisades Road. By the 1800’s, Andrew J. Collier and his family had established a large homestead and grist mill on the banks of Tanyard Creek. The battle of Peachtree Creek, considered to be one of the most significant battles of the Civil War, was fought near the mill and surrounding areas In July of 1864. Historical markers are placed throughout Collier Hills detailing the battle, and commemorating the fallen soldiers.
Established around 1941, the Collier Hills neighborhood is home to a variety of popular Cape Cod-style cottages and bungalow homes that sit comfortably set back on the winding, tree-lined streets.
A trio of public parks and recreation areas dot the Collier Hills landscape, including Ardmore Park, the massive 199 acre Memorial Park, home to the Bobby Jones golf course and Bitsy Grant Tennis Center among other amenities as well as Tanyard Creek Park, which is on the city’s popular BeltLine Trail.
Residents also enjoy the neighborhood’s convenient location just minutes away from the world-class shopping and dining options found in Buckhead and the numerous entertainment and sports venues located in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.
